In the deep blue waters, a swift and striking fish glides with a long, slender body and a large sail-like fin. This is the amlaugis, known for its speed and skill in hunting smaller sea creatures like fish and squid.
The amlaugis has a long, thin beak it uses to catch its prey quickly. Its back is dark blue, blending into shades of blue and brown on the sides, with a pale white belly. Along each side, about 20 stripes of small, round blue spots stand out clearly.
This impressive fish can grow over 3.4 meters long and weigh nearly 100 kilos, making it one of the ocean’s larger predators.
As part of the ongoing Fish Conservation 2025 campaign, we invite you to identify this remarkable fish. Submit your answers by September 30 for a chance to win a cash prize and learn more about protecting our marine life.
The amlaugis symbolizes the rich biodiversity of Philippine waters, reminding us of the need to conserve and manage our fisheries responsibly for future generations.
