In the fast-changing world of agriculture, a new type of product called biostimulants is gaining attention for its potential to improve crop growth naturally. To make sure these products are safe, effective, and properly regulated, the Philippine government is now inviting all concerned stakeholders to join the final consultation for the creation of a national product standard.
The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (DA-BAFS) will hold the final Stakeholder Consultation for the Philippine National Standard (PNS) on Biostimulants – Product Specifications on October 8, 2025 (Wednesday), at 9:00 AM via Google Meet.
What Are Biostimulants, and Why Do They Matter?
Biostimulants are not fertilizers or pesticides. Instead, they are substances or microorganisms that help plants grow better by improving nutrient use, reducing stress from drought or disease, and boosting overall plant health. These include natural products like seaweed extracts, humic acids, beneficial bacteria, and amino acids.
As more farmers look for sustainable farming solutions, the demand for biostimulants is rising. However, without proper standards, there is a risk of unregulated products flooding the market—some of which may not deliver promised results or could even harm crops.
Calling All Industry Experts and Agri Researchers
The upcoming consultation aims to gather insights from professionals in the manufacturing, distribution, and research and development of biostimulants. The input from these groups will help finalize the technical guidelines for the Philippine National Standard, which will ensure quality, safety, and performance across all biostimulant products sold in the country.
