In the quiet fields of Brgy. Del Pilar, San Mariano, Isabela, over 70 local farmers rise early each day, tending their paddies with care. They are part of a special training program aimed at making their village a center for hybrid rice seed production in the province—a critical step toward strengthening local agriculture and livelihoods.

During the fifth session of the season-long hybrid rice seed production training, PhilRice Isabela Station Director Joy Bartolome A. Duldulao told participants, “Your community bears the name of Gregorio Del Pilar. You are heroes in multiplying seeds and spreading farming knowledge.” The program, supported by Mayor Ana Cristina Go, provides hands-on training and technical guidance to farmers who will supply quality seeds to meet growing regional demand.

Project lead Dr. Fidel M. Ramos noted that Region 2 requires around 200,000 bags of hybrid seeds every year. By developing local production, farmers can ensure steady supply, reduce dependency on imports, and generate additional income for their families.

Deputy Executive Director Karen Eloisa T. Barroga encouraged participants to share their skills and farm practices within the community. “By helping each other, we strengthen both our agribusinesses and the community as a whole,” she said, highlighting the program’s focus on knowledge sharing and cooperative growth.

Through training, collaboration, and technical support, Brgy. Del Pilar is becoming a model for rural hybrid seed production, combining innovation with tradition. For the farmers, the program is more than training—it is an opportunity to secure livelihoods, boost rice production, and empower their community.
