Under the morning sun at Plaza Burgos in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, officials and community members gathered to honor organizations that have made a lasting impact on local livelihoods. Among the standout honorees was the DA–Philippine Carabao Center at Mariano Marcos State University (DA-PCC sa MMSU) and its partner organization, Timpuyog de San Marcelino SLPA Inc.
On November 27, the two groups were named finalists and recognized as one of the Best Partners during the DSWD Region I Gawad Sulong Awards. The event celebrates agencies and organizations that provide strong support to communities and help establish sustainable livelihoods for residents in the region.
The recognition reflects DA-PCC sa MMSU’s ongoing commitment to empowering local farmers through carabao-based programs, technical training, and community initiatives that enhance productivity and income. By partnering with local cooperatives like Timpuyog de San Marcelino, the center has strengthened the regional agriculture sector while promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
DSWD officials highlighted that such partnerships are essential in building resilient communities. Through collaboration with government agencies, research institutions, and local organizations, programs like the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) can reach more beneficiaries and create meaningful, long-term impacts.
For DA-PCC sa MMSU, the award is not just a recognition but also a motivation to continue supporting farmers and rural communities. Their work demonstrates how focused collaboration and community engagement can improve lives, foster economic growth, and strengthen the local agricultural industry.
As smallholder farmers and community leaders look on, the recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of teamwork and partnership in achieving sustainable development and inclusive growth across the region.
