Farmers and local officials in Northern Mindanao are preparing for a major boost in sustainable land management. The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), led by its Soil Conservation and Management Division (SCMD), recently conducted a series of coordination meetings and project updates with regional and local government partners.
These sessions focused on the upcoming full implementation of the GEF-7 Landscape Project in 2026, which aims to improve soil management and climate resilience across the Cagayan de Oro River Basin. Officials shared the latest project developments and strategies, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration for smooth and organized execution of programs.
The GEF-7 Landscape Project seeks to promote sustainable land use practices, reduce soil degradation, and help farmers increase productivity on their farmlands. By integrating soil conservation measures and climate-adaptive practices, the project is expected to enhance food security and strengthen local agricultural economies.
Local government units and partner agencies actively participated in the discussions, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and ready to support farmers in adopting better land management techniques. This cooperative approach is key to the project’s success, ensuring that benefits reach the communities that need them most.
With these preparations, Northern Mindanao is set to lead in sustainable agriculture practices, combining environmental protection with economic growth for farmers and the wider region.
