Inside the Mushroom Training Room of DA-BPI’s Crop Research and Production Support Division in Malate, Manila, a lively group of learners gathered on March 9, 2026, eager to gain practical skills in sustainable farming. The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) successfully conducted a free, face-to-face seminar on Basic Mushroom Cultivation Technology and Indigenous Vegetable Production as part of National Women’s Month celebrations.
Attended by individuals, particularly women, seeking to expand their knowledge in planting and crop care, the seminar combined lectures with hands-on demonstrations. Experts from DA-BPI shared step-by-step techniques on producing and maintaining mushrooms and indigenous vegetables, highlighting methods that are both environmentally friendly and economically beneficial.
This initiative aims to increase public awareness of sustainable plant production and to encourage women to become active contributors to local agriculture. By equipping participants with practical skills, DA-BPI hopes to strengthen community involvement, boost local food production, and create opportunities for livelihood generation.
DA-BPI also announced plans to continue similar trainings to further enhance community capacity, providing citizens with knowledge, skills, and avenues to participate in programs that promote a vibrant agricultural sector. These efforts align with the government’s vision of a Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas, where empowered individuals contribute to a more productive and sustainable farming landscape.
