Inside the ER Ponce Hall on March 9, 2026, the atmosphere was filled with purpose as staff of the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) gathered to learn about protecting women in workplaces and online spaces. The seminar, titled Safe Spaces, Safe Offices, was held in observance of National Women’s Month and highlighted the importance of understanding and preventing sexual harassment and gender-based violence.

The session focused on practical guidance for recognizing, addressing, and preventing harassment in both physical and digital environments. Participants were briefed on existing laws and policies designed to protect women and promote gender equality. Speakers emphasized creating a culture of respect, accountability, and safe reporting mechanisms within offices, research facilities, and online platforms.

By educating personnel on gender sensitivity and legal protections, the initiative aims to empower employees to foster inclusive, respectful, and safe workplaces. DA-BAR officials noted that promoting safe spaces is critical not only for the welfare of staff but also for strengthening collaboration, productivity, and morale in research and agricultural communities.

The seminar is part of a broader National Women’s Month effort to raise awareness on gender-based issues across the agriculture sector, ensuring that women’s voices are heard and their rights protected. DA-BAR continues to advocate for policies and training that reinforce safety, equality, and respect for all employees.
