“Originality is the essence of true scholarship. Creativity is the soul of the true scholar,” said Nigerian statesman Nnamdi Azikiwe, a quote that inspired the agency’s reflection this week. For BSWM, originality means not only being different but also being true to one’s purpose, upholding integrity, and finding creative ways to help Filipino farmers and communities.
The agency emphasized that every project, program, and research effort must carry the distinct mark of Filipino ingenuity. By encouraging originality among its staff and collaborators, BSWM aims to produce new technologies and sustainable solutions that address long-standing challenges in agriculture—such as soil degradation, water scarcity, and climate change.
Under the Department of Agriculture’s vision for a “Bagong Pilipinas,” BSWM continues to champion innovation and inclusivity in agricultural development. The agency believes that by fostering creative thinking, the country can boost productivity while protecting the environment and securing the future of rural communities.
Over the years, BSWM has launched various initiatives to support this mission, including soil conservation programs, water management projects, and capacity-building activities for local farmers and agricultural technicians.
