Filipino livestock and poultry farmers will have a chance to level up their practices as the Board of Investments (BOI) and the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) host a free online event this Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

In the face of rising food prices and increasing demand for safer, high-quality meat products, local farmers are being urged to adopt better standards in livestock and poultry production. To support this, the BOI and DA-BAI are inviting stakeholders to a one-day virtual forum on Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) via Zoom.

Running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the event will feature a full-day session of learning and open discussion. It is open to farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, investors, and local government officials involved in animal farming.

Best practices, real solutions

Participants will get an inside look at how GAHP-certified farms manage livestock and poultry while following strict guidelines on biosecurity, animal welfare, and environmental care.

Organizers say these practices not only improve the quality and safety of meat, eggs, and other animal products, but also help farmers boost productivity and income.

“By following GAHP standards, farmers can protect their animals from disease, produce safer food for Filipinos, and attract more investments into their farms,” said a BOI official in a statement.

Open dialogue with industry leaders

Aside from learning sessions, the forum will also include an industry dialogue—a live discussion where participants can raise questions, share challenges, and suggest ways to improve GAHP implementation in the country.

Topics expected to be discussed include:

  • How to become GAHP-certified

  • Access to funding and support for small farmers

  • Marketing certified animal products

  • Aligning with global food safety standards

This initiative is part of the government’s larger efforts to strengthen food security and encourage more private investment in agriculture, particularly in the livestock and poultry sectors which have been hard-hit by diseases like African Swine Fever and Avian Flu in recent years.

No fees, no travel – join via Zoom

With no cost to attend, the event aims to reach more farmers even in remote areas. It will be conducted entirely online through Zoom.

The BOI is encouraging everyone involved in the animal farming value chain to attend. “This is your chance to learn directly from the experts, improve your farm, and make your products more competitive in the local and global markets,” the agency said.

A step forward for Filipino farmers

As climate change, market competition, and food safety demands continue to grow, Filipino farmers need every opportunity to modernize and stay resilient. Events like this offer practical knowledge and connections that can help small to medium-scale producers thrive.
