The local government unit of Bay, Laguna has formally honored Dr. Maria Theresa Mutia, Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture–National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, for her international achievement at the Women in Ag Awards 2025 held in Hanover, Germany.
During the 24th regular session of the Sangguniang Bayan, the council approved Resolution No. 2025-177 recognizing Dr. Mutia’s third-place win in the Technology and Research category. Vice Mayor Michael Punzalan personally presented the Certificate of Recognition, highlighting her achievement as a source of pride for Bay, Laguna and the Philippines.
Dr. Mutia made history as the first Filipina to receive an award in the Technology and Research category of the Women in Ag Awards. She stood out among more than 150 entries from 63 countries, marking a major milestone for Filipino women scientists and agricultural researchers on the global stage.
The Women in Ag Awards recognize outstanding women who contribute to innovation, sustainability, and development in agriculture and related fields. The Technology and Research category, where Dr. Mutia placed third, honors breakthroughs that improve food systems, productivity, and resilience—areas that are critical as countries face climate change and food security challenges.
Local officials said the recognition goes beyond personal success. They noted that Dr. Mutia’s work reflects the strength of Filipino expertise in science and research, especially in fisheries and agriculture, sectors that support millions of livelihoods nationwide.
