As farmers prepare for another planting season, agriculture officials are reminding the public about the importance of using fertilizers and pesticides safely to protect crops, communities, and the environment.
The Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority announced that its webinar on the safe and responsible use of fertilizers and pesticides has been rescheduled to May 26, 2026, following the declaration of May 27 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
The online webinar will be conducted through Zoom and is expected to gather farmers, agriculture workers, students, and stakeholders interested in learning proper farm chemical handling and safety practices.
According to the agency, the webinar aims to strengthen public awareness about the safe and judicious use of agricultural inputs, especially as the country continues efforts to improve farm productivity while protecting human health and the environment.
Fertilizers and pesticides play a major role in increasing crop production and protecting plants from pests and diseases. However, agriculture experts have long warned that improper handling and excessive use of chemicals can pose risks to farmers, consumers, soil quality, and water sources.
Officials said responsible use includes proper application, correct dosage, safe storage, and the use of protective equipment during handling. Farmers are also encouraged to follow product labels and government regulations to avoid health hazards and environmental damage.
The webinar forms part of the government’s continuing campaign to promote sustainable and science-based farming practices across the country. Agriculture agencies continue to provide training programs and educational activities to help farmers improve productivity while reducing unnecessary risks.
The Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority serves as the government agency responsible for regulating fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural chemicals in the Philippines. It also works to ensure that agricultural products used by farmers meet safety and quality standards.
Agriculture officials emphasized that education and proper training remain important in helping farmers make informed decisions in the field. Safer farming practices not only help improve crop yields but also protect farming communities and consumers from possible harmful effects of chemical misuse.
The observance of Eid al-Adha, one of the most important Islamic holidays, prompted the adjustment of the webinar schedule to allow participants to properly observe the occasion.
As farming challenges continue to evolve, officials encourage more farmers and agriculture stakeholders to participate in educational activities that support safer, more productive, and environmentally responsible agriculture.
