Under the morning sun in Quezon Province, local farmers gathered to receive a new tool for sustainable livelihoods: Native Stingless Bee Modules. On February 19, 2026, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), through its National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), distributed 20 of these modules to qualified beneficiaries across the province.

Each module contains five colonies of native stingless bees, along with essential beekeeping tools and accessories. These bees are not only important for honey production but also play a key role in pollinating crops, supporting healthier harvests and more resilient farms.

Before receiving the modules, participants attended hands-on seminar-training sessions. They learned basic meliponiculture—the science and practice of stingless bee management—including proper handling of colonies, hive care, monitoring techniques, and sustainable honey harvesting. The training aimed to equip beneficiaries with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain healthy bee colonies while maximizing productivity.

The distribution event was a joint effort involving the Municipal Agriculture Offices of Candelaria, Dolores, San Antonio, Sariaya, and Tiaong. It also partnered with the Provincial Veterinary Office of Quezon, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office IV-A (CALABARZON), and coordinated with DA–NUPAP. This collaboration ensures that support reaches local communities efficiently while providing both inputs and technical guidance.

Through initiatives like this, BAI–NUPAP continues to empower rural communities by promoting sustainable agriculture, boosting income opportunities, and supporting inclusive development. Farmers now have access to practical tools and expert knowledge that help strengthen their livelihoods while protecting the environment.
