Under the morning sun at the BAI compound in Quezon City, officials, industry partners, and employees gathered to celebrate nearly a century of service in Philippine animal health and livestock development.

On February 23, 2026, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) officially opened its 96th Founding Anniversary celebration, which will run until February 27. The week-long event brings together representatives from the Department of Agriculture, national government agencies, local government units, livestock and poultry industry stakeholders, and BAI personnel.

Anchored on the theme “Matatag. Makabago. Sama-sama.”, the opening ceremony highlighted BAI’s commitment to modernizing veterinary services and strengthening partnerships to support the growth of the country’s livestock and poultry sectors. The program reflected on BAI’s long history of safeguarding animal health, promoting food safety, and supporting sustainable animal production across the Philippines.

During the ceremony, BAI showcased division accomplishments and recognized exemplary farms and laboratories. Certificates were awarded to Outstanding Organic Certified Farms, Accredited Laboratories, and farms that complied with Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) and the Swine Breeder Farms Accreditation Program (SBFAP). These certifications reinforce responsible farming practices and ensure compliance with food safety standards.

The event also featured the launch of the Philippine Swine Breed Registry and the introduction of Gabay ng Panghayupan, a guidance initiative for farmers. A Trade and Exhibit Fair ribbon-cutting highlighted innovations and services supporting the livestock industry. A special recognition was given to BAI-National Swine and Poultry Research and Development Center Chief Dr. Rene Santiago, the first BAI employee to become a scientist, honoring his significant contributions to animal science and industry advancement.

Through this celebration, BAI reaffirms its commitment to modern, sustainable, and collaborative approaches in supporting Filipino farmers, ensuring safe animal products, and advancing the country’s livestock and poultry sectors.
