Executive Director Glenn DC. Estrada of the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) reminds Filipinos that achieving food security requires everyone’s cooperation. “We must work together to protect our soils, ensure food safety, and build a sustainable future,” he said.
The FPA’s mission focuses on supporting farmers through proper fertilizer and pesticide use, helping improve crop yields while protecting the environment. Healthier soils mean stronger plants and safer food for consumers.
World Food Day, celebrated globally every October 16, highlights the importance of ending hunger and promoting sustainable agriculture. For the Philippines, where many families still struggle to afford nutritious meals, this day is a call to action.
Food security is not just about having enough food on the table. It also means food must be safe, nutritious, and produced in ways that protect the land for future generations.
The FPA encourages farmers, government agencies, and communities to adopt good farming practices that preserve soil health and reduce harmful chemicals. This approach helps ensure a steady food supply that does not harm people or the environment.
Director Estrada stresses that collective efforts are key. “From farmers in the fields to families at home, everyone has a role in securing our food future,” he said.
